Councillor Shaun Ennis becomes new leader of Trafford Liberal Democrats

Your Liberal Democrat councillors in Trafford have selected a new Group Leader.  Shaun Ennis now takes over from Cllr Julian Newgrosh who has led the Liberal Democrats on the council since 2019. 

Cllr Shaun Ennis said:

“It’s an absolute honour that my party colleagues have backed me as the new Leader of the Liberal Democrats on Trafford Council.  A special thanks has to go to Julian, who has worked so unbelievably hard as Leader over the last four years.  In that time, the number of Liberals on the council has doubled and we have our largest group since 1987.” 

“During the COVID pandemic, Julian was a true local champion. Helping out at local hubs, checking in on vulnerable residents and perhaps most importantly, he spoke out against the government’s attempt to discharge COVID positive hospital patients into care homes.  Julian always stands up for what is right.”

Reflecting on his time at the helm, outgoing Leader, Cllr Newgrosh said:

“It’s been hard but rewarding work leading our local party over the last four years. Handing over to Shaun, I know the Liberal Democrats will continue to fight for Trafford residents and work hard for our communities all year round.”
