New top-soil and grass seeds for Pickering Lodge Park
The Lib Dems have been lobbying Trafford Council to refresh the well-loved park of Pickering Lodge park for ages, and the Council has finally agreed to do so.
Lib Dems have been lobbying the Council for ages to get new top-soil and grass seeds around the goal posts in Pickering Lodge. It pops up now and again in our newsletters as something we are working on - but it's been heavy work to make it happen.
Obviously the grass here gets worn away, but every so often you need to restore the grass - otherwise the bare patch just gets bigger. It's important to look after our green spaces - we don't want them to be neglected.
Our first attempt failed...
We were promised this last winter, and we were pretty fed up when a bit of soil and some seeds were spread around, and just left by the Council's contractors. There was no fencing - and the soil and seeds were soon scattered and lost - probably by people who didn't realize it was there.
Our second attempt...
Cllr Will Frass met the officers to ask them to re-do the job, but this time to fence the area off, like they've done in Newton Park off Frieston Road. They used up all their fencing, apparently, so we had to wait until Newton Park was done.
Cllrs Jane Brophy and Will Frass checked in on progress today:
- Fences in place to protect the area while the seeds establish.
- One end nicely re-seeded with new top-soil.
- Just waiting for new soil at the other end...
Yes - it is out of action for a few weeks - and yes - we wish they'd done it sooner before the summer holidays as originally requested - but at least it's being done and long term it means the area will be nicer for everyone.
